We have been silent for some time now and we apologize for that. Life has gotten in the way, and as a result of unexpected health challenges we find ourselves forced to make a difficult decision. Soltara is for sale.

Soltara is a Tayana 37, a 37 foot double-ender designed by American yacht designer, Robert Perry. She was built in 1981 by Ta Yang Yacht Building Company in Taiwan. She measures 36’8″ overall, with a waterline length of 31′. The Tayana 37’s classic, wooden bowsprit and teak accents give her a salty look that sends many sailors wistfully longing to untie the lines and sail away in search of distant shores.

Once a person catches a glimpse of the interior of the Tayana, it is often love at first sight. The joinery is most impressive, a great deal of warm teak and of solid build. Storage abounds, allowing for all those provisions and spares that are needed for longer voyages.

The Tayana 37 was a big hit in the nautical scene when the first boats were built in the mid 1970s, so much so that over 600 have been built. Many have made ocean crossings, and many have circumnavigated. Ta Yang offered many options with the design and it is said that no two Tayana 37’s are the same. Some were built with a cutter rig and others with a ketch rig. Soltara is a cutter, which we have found to be an ideal set up for a sailing couple or single-hander.

We are her third owners, having purchased her in November of 2019 with big dreams of sailing across the Atlantic ocean as we had done on our previous sailboat. Unfortunately, due to health issues our plans and lifestyle have changed. While we are sad that we are unable to continue on our big adventure, we recognize that it doesn’t mean the adventure is over for Soltara.

She has had many upgrades in the last 1.5 years, too many to list them all. She is a solid, fiberglass sailboat that can take you anywhere. Soltara is located in the beautiful Caribbean waters of Puerto Rico, only a short flight from the USA. She is ready to sail!

Gorgeous! I’m always sorry to hear folk having to sell a well-loved boat. I hope you find someone to care for her. I would not be at all displeased if it was me…
Good luck.
